Manipur Technical University (MTU), in collaboration with IQAC, MTU, MECH Club, MTU and MEI LAK AE Club, MTU, and supported by the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, organised a workshop-cum-internship on Drone Technology from January 15 to 24 at the MTU campus.
The ten-day programme was structured to provide in-depth theoretical and practical exposure to drone technology. It comprised five days of training on drone fundamentals, operational safety, and regulatory awareness, followed by five days of hands-on sessions on drone-based data acquisition, processing, and analysis, focusing on real-world engineering and societal applications.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Meinam Annebushan Singh, with Dr. Khagokpam Gopal Krishna Singh and Dr. Neimarakpam Dhanachandra Singh as Conveners. Students and faculty members from different engineering disciplines participated enthusiastically, reflecting strong academic and professional interest in emerging aerial technologies.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur Technical University, who highlighted the transformative role of drone technology in areas such as infrastructure inspection, disaster management, agriculture, and smart governance. He emphasized the responsibility of technical universities in preparing industry-ready and innovation-driven graduates.
Distinguished guests included Ksh. Imokanta Singh, Chief Finance Officer, who spoke on the application of drones in healthcare and emergency services while Prof. Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General, stressed on the importance of interdisciplinary skill development. Rajendra Jena, Chief Geoinformatics Officer elaborated on the significance of geospatial data and drone-based analytics in planning and decision-making.
The workshop aimed to enhance technical competence, promote applied research, and foster innovation and entrepreneurship among participants. MTU expressed its sincere appreciation to NECTAR, DST, Government of India, for its support and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing cutting-edge technological education in the region.
