Vodafone Idea (Vi) shares climbed nearly 4 percent on December 2 after Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia indicated that the Centre could finalise recommendations on the company’s AGR relief package in the coming weeks. The stock rose to ₹10.32 in early Tuesday trade, breaking a two-day losing streak.
Scindia told CNBC-TV18 that the government is waiting for a formal request from Vodafone Idea before moving ahead with any relief measures. He said the Department of Telecommunications will assess the proposal and make recommendations accordingly. The minister also stressed that the Centre must operate within the limits set by the Supreme Court, noting that the judgement needs to be reviewed to determine what actions are legally permissible.
Scindia added that the evaluation process may be completed within a couple of weeks, with the framework of the relief package likely to be announced by the end of the year.
Vodafone Idea’s stock has gained about 7 percent over the past month and more than 45 percent in the last six months. It is up over 27 percent in 2025 so far. Since touching a 52-week low of ₹6.12 in August, the stock surged 81 percent to a high of ₹11.08 in November, before slipping nearly 7 percent from that peak.
