The Vikshit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 for Chandel district was held at the Seminar Hall of South East Manipur College, Komlathabi, themed ’50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.’ This event, organized by the National Service Scheme, SEMCO, and Mera Yuva Bharat Chandel, saw active participation from youth aged 18-25 representing various local institutions. The Chief Guest, Sub Divisional Officer of Chandel, Reikimdaar Khaling, and Dr. Miranda Bembem Mutuwa, IQAC Coordinator at SEMCO, emphasized the importance of youth engagement in democratic processes. Dr. Mutuwa highlighted the Youth Parliament as a vital platform for youth to voice their opinions on national issues, noting that with around 371 million young individuals aged 18-29 and 65% of the population under 35, their involvement in politics and nation-building is crucial. She encouraged participants to express their aspirations and ideas for a better India, announcing that the top five winners would advance to represent Chandel at the state-level competition.
The Chief Guest reflected on the national emergency of 1975, discussing its implications for democracy and underscoring that a healthy democracy hinges on active citizen participation beyond periodic elections. She articulated that democracy thrives within a balance among citizens, judiciary, executive, and legislature while stressing the collective responsibility to safeguard rights. The competition concluded with the jury announcing the top five winners: Roshni Nula from United College secured first place, followed by Lh Penahring (second), SK Jilihring (third) from SEMCO, Tongsin Phowlnihring (fourth), and HL Amit Anal (fifth) from United College, all of whom will represent Chandel at the state-level competition.
