Officials reported on Wednesday that a joint operation conducted by central and state forces led to the apprehension of a cadre affiliated with an underground group in the southern region of the state, accompanied by the recovery of arms and ammunition within the past 24 hours. As per police reports, the operation resulted in the arrest of an active cadre associated with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Lamyanba Khuman) from an area in Khongjom, located in Manipur’s Thoubal district, on Tuesday.
The apprehended individual was identified as Wangkhem Premjit, also known as Kamcha Singh (44), hailing from Luker Mayai Leikai in Imphal West District. Investigations revealed his involvement in coercive extortion activities targeting businessmen and the general public across the southern region of the state over the past few months.
Additionally, authorities recovered a 9 mm Pistol and three rounds of live ammunition from his possession. The cadre, along with the seized weapons, has been handed over to the Khongjom police station for further legal proceedings, as per reports.
