Tripura witnessed a notably dry pre-monsoon season this year, with a 17% rainfall deficit between March and May, according to a study by the Meteorological Centre, Agartala. Based on data from observatories in Agartala and Kailashahar (Unakoti district), the report by scientists Rana Das and Dr. Partha Roy found Unakoti, Dhalai, and Gomati districts experienced deficient rainfall, while the other five districts saw normal levels. Khowai reported no deviation from normal, whereas Dhalai faced the steepest shortfall at 32%. Agartala recorded a 22% deficit, with March seeing a staggering -98% drop, April -38%, and May -2%. Kailashahar, however, ended with a slight 2% surplus, thanks to a 29% surplus in May despite earlier deficits.

Minimum temperatures were above normal in Agartala during March and April. On May 10, Agartala hit 38.5°C and Kailashahar 37.6°C. Thunderstorm activity was 10% below normal in Agartala and 9% above in Kailashahar, with more rainy and thunder days in Kailashahar.
