In a significant display of inclusivity and solidarity, a one-day football match was organized by “Young Transgender Moirang,” with support from the Matai Society, on April 9th at Moirang Chingei Lampak, located in the Bishnupur district of Manipur. The event saw active participation from various LGBTQIA+ groups and individuals hailing from different districts, including the All Manipur Transmen Association Manipur (ATMA).

In a statement released by ATMA, it was highlighted that sports have long been an integral part of society, and the LGBTQIA+ community has been actively organizing sporting events across Manipur. Such initiatives not only promote athleticism but also serve as powerful narratives for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Emphasizing solidarity and challenging prejudiced gender norms, ATMA aimed to foster unity and strengthen bonds within the community through the football match. The event also sought to showcase the inherent talents of LGBTQIA+ individuals while promoting the importance of physical well-being among the community.

“As Manipur, particularly the Meitei community, celebrates the Cheiraoba festival, marking the onset of the Manipuri lunar year, we extend our warm wishes for a year filled with love and hope. Through initiatives like this football match, we aspire to build a homeland free from prejudice and ailments, welcoming everyone with open arms,” the release stated, reflecting the spirit of the occasion.
