Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram and Zote Toyota, has launched its 67th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) and the STAR Scholarship Initiative at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Aizawl. The initiative aims to equip students, especially from rural areas, with technical skills and improve their employability in the automotive industry.
The event, graced by Mizoram’s Minister of State for Labour and Skill Development, Lalnghinglova Hmar, marked a significant step toward enhancing youth employability. The T-TEP facility focuses on General Technician training, combining on-the-job training and advanced automotive curriculum for final-year ITI and Diploma students. The STAR Scholarship Program further supports economically disadvantaged students by covering education and living expenses, offering up to ₹51,000 annually.
This initiative is particularly beneficial for states like Manipur, where skilled automotive professionals are in high demand. With growing vehicle sales and service needs in Imphal, T-TEP-trained students are well-positioned to contribute to the city’s automotive market while securing sustainable careers. Zote Toyota Dealer Principal Zorammawia Tochhawng emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between education and employability, while TKM Executive VP Vikram Gulati reiterated the company’s commitment to skill development. Since 2006, T-TEP has trained over 13,000 students, with over 70% employed in the automotive sector, aligning with India’s “Skill India” and “Make in India” missions.
