On Saturday, the Manipur Police arrested two members of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) identified as 32-year-old Asem Nongpoknganba Meitei, also known as Ngangoiba, and 27-year-old Thangjam Gandhi Meitei, also known as Yaima, in Wangkhei Ayangpalli under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. The police recovered a pistol with two magazines containing 16 live rounds and a mobile phone from their possession. Additionally, another member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), 23-year-old Laishram Monish Singh, alias Tom, was arrested from his home in Khagempalli Pankha Nganapi Thong Mamang under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district, where a mobile phone was also seized. Concurrently, security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination in districts identified as fringe and vulnerable. They established a total of 115 Nakas or checkpoints across various districts, encompassing both hilly and valley regions; however, no further arrests were made. The police ensured the safe movement of 254 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway 37 and implemented stringent security measures in vulnerable areas, providing security convoys for vehicles traveling through sensitive stretches to facilitate safe transportation.
