Imphal: In ‘light of the prevailing law and order situation’ in the district, the Manipur government has decided to prolong the five-day internet ban, which also includes mobile data services, in Churachandpur district till March 2. According to a Home Department order released on Sunday night, “the state government decided to continue suspension of internet services, mobile data services, and internet services through VPN throughout the whole revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district until March 2 after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation in Churachandpur district.It said that mobile service providers were also instructed to make sure the directive was followed.Following a mob’s entry into the district office complexes of the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner, which involved vandalism and the setting of official facilities on fire, the state government on February 16 announced a temporary suspension of internet services in Churachandpur district for a period of five days. When a crowd stormed the mini-secretariat to protest the suspension of a head constable following the viral social media footage of him with armed miscreants, two people were murdered in the ensuing altercation with security personnel.”
