Imphal: The family of Linthoingambi, headed by her father Hijam Kulajit, conveyed their profound dissatisfaction to the state and the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their inability to find their daughter, who has been missing for the last eight months. Hijam Kulajit stressed the family’s protracted search for closure during a news conference at their Tera home.
Kulajit claims that not much has changed in the case since the state administration turned it over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 23 of last year. He said, “I have been in contact with CBI agents and other law enforcement organizations that are looking into my daughter’s case, as well as her friend Phijam Hemanjit. The victims’ corpses have not yet been found, despite the fact that four suspects have been detained and investigations are still on. The entire situation seems more like a planned production meant to put an end to protests and public fury.Kulajit expressed his dismay and drew attention to the lack of assistance from well-known government figures, such as the Chief Minister, who had not visited or asked questions regarding the situation, with the exception of Governor Anusuiya Uikey, who made a single visit and promised swift action.
The family also talked about the social exclusion they experienced as a result of the delay in completing Linthoingambi’s last rites. Kulajit threw out the current court case and asked the remains of his daughter be returned. The “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was condemned by him for not doing more to protect girls like Linthoingambi.
