Heavy downpours, strong winds, and hailstorms on Sunday inflicted considerable damage across various regions of the State. Significant agricultural loss occurred due to strong winds and hail, endangering farmers’ livelihoods and disrupting the ongoing crop season. Areas like Irengband, Hawairou, and Mairenbam in Kakching saw damages to 30-40 houses, supplemented by destruction in Sora. Additionally, crops and several residential properties, including those of Seram Bina Devi and Md. Saloudin, suffered extensive harm, with reports of goods washed away and homes damaged throughout Kakching district.
The severe weather particularly devastated mustard fields, prompting urgent appeals from affected citizens and farmers for government assistance in relief and reconstruction efforts. Chief Minister Y Khemchand reassured residents of the government’s commitment to their well-being and instructed officials to remain vigilant, coordinating swift responses to mitigate the storm’s impact. In social media updates, he emphasized the provision of essential support and relief materials to those impacted. Furthermore, an orange alert was issued by the weather department, indicating potential thunderstorms and gusty winds across all districts, urging residents to take safety precautions and follow advisories to avoid dangers such as falling trees or flooding.
