Under the Manipur State Legal Services Authority’s initiative, the District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal, and the Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok hosted an inter-school painting competition themed ‘Stop Child Marriage’ for students in Classes VI to X on Wednesday at the Little Star English Hr. Secondary School, Thoubal Haokha. A total of 138 students from various institutions participated, with Laishram Ocin Devi, Mutum Pushparani Devi, and Macdonald Yumnam securing the top three prizes, along with cash awards of Rs. 2000, Rs. 1500, and Rs. 1000. Consolation prizes of Rs. 200 were also awarded to students ranked 4th to 8th, while all participants received certificates. Thingujam Arunkumar Singh, Coordinator of the Legal Aid Clinic, emphasized that child marriage is an abusive practice affecting underage girls, and the competition aims to combat this issue, generating awareness and inspiring action against child marriage in India. Additionally, a legal awareness program covering the ‘Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006’ was conducted, featuring Advocate Thokchom Bishworjit Singh who engaged in discussions with students about the legal aspects of the issue.
