In a significant policy move to enhance regional economic development, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, alongside Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma, launched the North East Apprenticeship Pilot Scheme. With an allocation of ₹43.94 crore, the initiative aims to provide over 26,000 youth in the North Eastern Region with a ₹1,500 monthly stipend on top of the existing National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) benefits, incentivizing industry engagement and skill acquisition.
The policy addresses critical challenges of workforce readiness and regional disparities by promoting inclusive and gender-responsive apprenticeship training. Chaudhary emphasized the scheme’s role in fostering mobility and aligning local talent with industry demands, contributing to sustainable economic growth.
This initiative is expected to catalyze the availability of skilled labor essential for expanding sectors like manufacturing, retail, and IT services. Local businesses anticipate enhanced productivity and reduced talent shortages, which could lead to increased investment and market competitiveness. The launch also featured a collaboration between NSDC and Welspun Living Ltd for textile sector training and introduced a ₹60,000 crore national ITI modernization plan, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a future-ready workforce and inclusive regional development.
