Shija Foundation extended heartfelt congratulations to the team of “Boong” for winning the Best Children’s and Family Film award at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, held in London on February 22, 2026. The film made history as the first Indian film to receive this honour in this category.
Directed by filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi and produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Vikesh Bhutani, Alan McAlex, and Shujaat Saudagar under Excel Entertainment, the film features Gugun Kipgen in the lead role as Boong. The story follows a young boy navigating life amid the socio-political realities of Manipur. It triumphed over international contenders
including Lilo & Stitch, Arco, and Zootopia 2.
Parts of the film were shot at St. Anthony’s School, Imphal, a unit of Shija Foundation. Angom Sanamatum, the 13 year old actor who portrays the character Raju Agarwal, is the son of Serina Potsangbam, an Optometrist at Shija Eye Care Foundation.
The Shija Foundation and St. Anthony’s School applauded the cast and crew for this remarkable achievement and for elevating Manipur’s presence on the global cinematic stage.
