Six days after the death of Manipur BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte, his body remains at the Churachandpur district morgue due to political demands from tribal organizations. Valte’s body was transferred to the morgue after being airlifted from Gurugram, with a post-mortem examination scheduled. Representatives from Zomi civil organizations have indicated that the burial will be delayed as they prioritize demands for a separate administration. Following Valte’s death, a candlelight vigil was held in Churachandpur, where protesters called for a Union Territory with a legislature for hill areas and urged investigations into the May 4 attack on Valte to be taken over by the CBI or NIA. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has paid his respects, and the Zomi Council, along with Valte’s family, is consulting on the burial plans. The delay in final rites has intertwined with ongoing political tensions regarding administration demands and the investigation of the attack that seriously injured the legislator.
