A significant cache of arms and ammunition was seized by security forces in Manipur during two separate operations, as reported by police on Saturday. The first recovery occurred on Friday in the areas surrounding Ngairangbam and Khongakhul villages, under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station in the Imphal West district. This operation yielded a modified .303 rifle with its magazine, a locally manufactured Single Barrel Breech Loading (SBBL) gun, five pistols each accompanied by a magazine, an air pistol, one grenade, 20 rounds of .303 ammunition, a Baofeng hand-held radio with a charger, and a bulletproof jacket cover.
The second incident involved a recovery from the Chanung Range foothills. The security forces discovered another .303 rifle with a magazine, a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) lacking a magazine, eight SBBL rifles, a revolver, and a .22 caliber pistol equipped with a magazine. Concurrently, security operations in vulnerable areas of the region remain ongoing, with a total of 115 checkpoints established across various districts of Manipur, encompassing both mountainous and valley regions.
To ensure the safe passage of essential goods, the movement of 230 vehicles along National Highway 37 has been facilitated, along with rigorous security protocols being implemented at all sensitive sites. Police coordination is in place to provide security convoys for vehicles navigating critical areas, thereby enhancing safety and access across the region.
