A one-day diabetes detection camp was successfully held at Tentha Heibung Mamang Leikai in the Thoubal district to promote early diagnosis and awareness of diabetes among local residents. The camp was organized by the TESRA Club, Tentha, Lions Club Canchipur Palace, and the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at Manipur University, in collaboration with TOTO Diagnostic Centre, Singjamei. Qualified medical staff and technicians provided free services, including blood glucose testing, ECG, and hypertension evaluations, along with basic health consultations.
Participants received crucial information on diabetes, focusing on its causes, symptoms, prevention, and management strategies. Emphasis was placed on the importance of regular physical activity, balanced diets, and lifestyle modifications. Dignitaries in attendance included Prof. Maibam Nodiyachand Singh from the Department of PESS at Manipur University, Dr. Khwairakpam Hemanta Singh from the Lions Club, and other notable figures, all highlighting the pressing public health issue presented by diabetes in Manipur.
Prof. Nodiyachand Singh emphasized that diabetes is increasingly becoming a major health concern and can be mitigated through appropriate exercise and lifestyle management, which is essential for longevity and well-being. Dr. Hemanta underscored the benefits of early disease detection and health education. Additional lectures focused on local health issues, with Dr. Kh. Mukta Singh discussing yoga’s role in health.
Volunteers from the organizing team were instrumental in managing registration and awareness activities during the camp, which welcomed 50 patients. The organizing committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical team from TOTO Diagnostic Centre and the local community for their support and collaboration, ensuring the camp’s success.
