The Department of Radiation Oncology and the Department of Pathology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, jointly observed World Cancer Day 2026 today at the OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, Imphal, with the theme “United by Unique.”
Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal, presided over the event as President. Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academic), RIMS, Prof. Y. Sobita Devi, Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Prof. Sushma Khuraijam, Head of the Department of Pathology, RIMS, Imphal, were present as Guests of Honour.
In his address, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma emphasized that on World Cancer Day, RIMS reaffirms its commitment to united, patient-centred cancer care. He highlighted that through strong collaboration between pathology and oncology, the institute focuses on cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and compassionate treatment. He further stated that with expanding faculty strength, upgraded infrastructure, and future plans for comprehensive cancer services, RIMS remains hopeful, united, and dedicated to serving the people of Manipur and neighbouring states.
The programme focused on creating awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of individualized, patient-centred cancer care.
The event was attended by Heads of Departments, Principals of the Dental and Nursing Colleges, the Deputy Director (Administration), the Chief Accounts Officer, faculty members, staff, students, and patient parties, reflecting RIMS’ collective commitment to public health awareness and compassionate care.
