The Department of Dermatology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed National Anti-Leprosy Day at the General OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, on the theme “Ending Discrimination, Ensuring Dignity.” The programme was part of the nationwide initiative to raise awareness and strengthen efforts towards leprosy elimination. Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, attended as Chief Guest, while Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, presided over the function.
The dignitaries present included Dr. Chitralekha Keisham, HOD (i/c), Department of Dermatology; Dr. Salam Bocha Singh, State Leprosy Officer, Manipur; and Prof. Th. Nandakishore Singh, Professor, Department of Dermatology, RIMS, highlighting coordinated institutional and public health involvement.
The observance focused on promoting early detection, complete treatment, and reducing stigma and discrimination, while ensuring social inclusion and dignity. Leprosy-affected patients were felicitated to recognize their resilience and encourage rehabilitation. The programme was attended by the Dean (Academics), Heads of Departments, Principals of the Dental and Nursing Colleges, faculty, staff, students, MSS, CRED, and patient parties, reflecting RIMS’ collective commitment to public health awareness and compassionate care.
