The Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF), a trust of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, has disbursed a total of Rs 1.56 lakh under its Medical Financial Assistance (MFA) scheme for Phase I of 2025–26, covering treatment expenses incurred between April 1 and September 30, 2025.

Six applications were received during the period, and, following scrutiny by its Medical Board and approval from the Board of Trustees, financial assistance was extended to all six beneficiaries. The distribution ceremony was held at the Manipur Press Club on Thursday in the presence of PWF. Chairperson N. Tombiraj, Secretary Borun Thokchom, and other executives’ members.

Among the beneficiaries, Okram Somendra Singh of Impact TV received Rs 30,000 for treatment involving ORIF with double plating, while Thokchom Anil Kumar of Sangai Express was granted Rs 30,000 for treatment of CAD, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Wangkhem Lukhoi of Echel Express received Rs 19,000 for the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma; Sapam Aruna of Sangai Express was provided Rs 9,000 for fracture treatment; Adison Nongthombam of Sangai Express received Rs 15,000 for the treatment of her daughter; and Maibam Sonalee of Impact TV was granted Rs 15,000 for her medical treatment.

In addition, PWF handed over a check of Rs 36,000 to AMWJU as reimbursement for immediate medical relief earlier extended to member journalists, bringing the total expenditure for this phase to Rs 1.56 lakh. Launched in 2017, the MFA scheme provides financial assistance to both serving and retired bona fide members of AMWJU, with provision for one time aid to an immediate family member. The scheme is disbursed every six months and is funded through interest generated from PWF’s corpus of Rs. 80 lakh was maintained as a fixed deposit with the State Bank of India.
