As part of the “Mahila Jan Sunwai” initiative, which took place from March 9 to 13 to commemorate International Women’s Day, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) held public hearings across five districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, and Chandel. These events aimed to ensure accessible and timely grievance redressal for women, showcasing MSCW’s commitment to addressing issues affecting women’s safety, rights, and dignity. The initiative is a collaboration between the National Commission for Women and MSCW, focused on facilitating swift justice and enhancing grassroots access to legal recourse. Significant engagement was observed, with numerous women participating to voice their concerns.

During the hearings, a total of 31 complaints were received, and all were addressed on-the-spot. The Commission enabled immediate disposal of these cases, issuing notices in six instances and directing the police department to conduct inquiries related to police matters. Additionally, legal experts and counselors provided ongoing support and counseling assistance to the complainants. The initiative included the provision of legal aid to ensure effective and prompt justice delivery, reinforcing MSCW’s ongoing efforts to empower women in the region.
