A free medical camp and cataract screening programme for senior citizens was held at the Pherzawl District Headquarters, part of an ongoing initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility for senior citizens, women, and the broader community. This event, organized by the Social Welfare Department along with the Pherzawl District Administration and District Health Society, marked the third day of the initiative and saw a significant turnout of senior citizens who participated in eye check-ups and cataract screenings. Those diagnosed with cataracts were referred for free surgical operations, while others with various eye-related issues received free medications.
Additionally, the camp included free health check-ups for adolescent girls in alignment with the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, addressing numerous health concerns and distributing medications at no cost. Malaria screenings were also performed during the camp, emphasizing preventive healthcare practices in the district.
The successful execution of the programme was further supported by members of the Pherzawl Village Authority, reflecting community cooperation. Concurrently, the event featured a district-level ASHA Convention for the years 2025-2026, aimed at honoring the dedicated service of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and enhancing coordination in community health initiatives. The convention was organized by the District Health Society of Pherzawl and attended by notable officials, including Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner Joel G Haokip, MCS, ZEO Jangkhohao Haokip, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hmanglamkhup Kom.
