Manipur Youth Congress organized a protest against what they termed the “dictatorial rule of the BJP,” demanding the immediate release of Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib and other leaders. Members attempted to rally from Congress Bhawan to the state BJP office but were stopped by police, leading to a brief altercation. They used placards and slogans like “BJP down, down” and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, even attempting to display an effigy of him, which was confiscated by police. Manipur Youth Congress President W. Anand Singh emphasized that the organization advocates for unemployment issues, protection of constitutional rights, and support for the impoverished. He noted ongoing threats but affirmed their resolve. Singh also condemned a peaceful protest mockingly referred to as a “shirtless protest” at a recent AI summit, expressing that the BJP prioritizes party interests over the suffering of the people in Manipur. He highlighted the lack of support from the BJP for the community’s innocent victims and stated their intent to protest further, particularly against Modi’s governance, asserting Youth Congress’s commitment to justice and democratic values in India.
