In a major boost to overseas employment opportunities for youth from Manipur and the Northeast, NSDC International (NSDCI) on Monday signed an agreement with Manipur University to establish a Japanese Language Training Centre on the university campus in Imphal. The initiative aims to equip local youth with Japanese language skills aligned with international standards, enabling access to jobs in Japan.
The agreement was signed in the presence of senior officials, marking a significant step towards skill-based global mobility. Under the partnership, NSDCI will design and implement the training framework, while Manipur University will provide the necessary on-campus infrastructure to ensure accessible and structured learning. Speaking on the occasion, NSDC International CEO Alok Kumar said the collaboration would help youth from Manipur compete confidently in international job markets. The training programmes will cover multiple sectors, including caregiving, hospitality, agriculture and manufacturing, and will guide learners from basic to advanced proficiency levels.
For Imphal and surrounding districts, the centre is expected to create a direct pathway to global employment, reducing dependence on local job markets. The initiative strengthens Manipur’s role in India’s growing skill export ecosystem and expands international career options for the region’s youth.
