The Ministry of External Affairs has introduced the Passport Seva Mobile Van under the “Passport Seva Aapke Dwar” initiative to improve passport service accessibility in rural and remote areas of the Northeast. The service was inaugurated by Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, IFS, Joint Secretary for the Passport Seva Project and Chief Passport Officer, at Gauhati University. The mobile van will travel to distant regions, enabling residents to easily submit passport applications and receive related services, ensuring last-mile delivery. Currently, six Passport Seva Kendras and 19 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras serve six Northeast states under RPO Guwahati. Dr. Srinivasa explained that the van functions as a one-stop shop for completing application procedures and mentioned that each of the 37 RPOs nationwide has one van, with plans to increase their numbers. The launch included officials from RPO Guwahati, TCS, and Gauhati University. During his visit, Dr. Srinivasa met key stakeholders, inspected facilities, and briefed Assam’s Governor and Chief Minister on the ministry’s efficient passport services.
