The Red Shield division of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps conducted a sanitization and demining operation along a 2.6 km corridor on the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur, successfully destroying nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two unexploded ordnances (UXOs) between January 16 and 17. The operation, requested by government agencies, aimed to facilitate the resumption of halted border fencing due to security threats linked to previous insurgent activities. Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of the Spear Corps, visited key districts in Manipur, including Ukhrul, Kangpokpi, and Imphal, to assess the security situation and ensure mission readiness amid ongoing challenges. He acknowledged the professionalism of the troops and emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance in response to potential threats. This operation has allowed construction teams to advance critical border infrastructure efforts.
