Following the President’s rule in Manipur since February, newly elected NDA legislature party leader Y Khemchand Singh has formally staked a claim to form a government. Upon arrival in Imphal, Khemchand and his team met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to assert this claim, accompanied by MLAs from Kuki-Zo majority districts. Singh expressed his satisfaction in initiating government formation on social media, noting the presence of key BJP figures, including Tarun Chugh and Sambit Patra. This claim follows his election as party leader at a BJP meeting in New Delhi, attended by a majority of BJP MLAs. The NDA includes representatives from several parties, including the National People’s Party (NPP) and Naga People’s Front (NPF), who endorsed Khemchand and appointed Nemcha Kipgen as deputy leader. Khemchand emphasized upcoming oath-taking and expressed confidence that the new Council of Ministers would focus on peace and development while pursuing ambitious goals for a developed Manipur.
