The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is conducting Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2026 from February 9 to 13 nationwide, including in Manipur. Initiated in 2016, FLW aims to raise awareness on crucial financial topics through structured campaigns. The 2026 theme, “KYC – Your First Step to Safe Banking,” emphasizes the significance of Know Your Customer (KYC) as a fundamental element of a secure banking system. This campaign aims to illustrate KYC not as just a regulatory mandate but as an easy process with various secure compliance options. It also aims to inform the public about Central KYC (CKYC), alert them to fraudulent communications regarding KYC updates, and raise awareness of the risks associated with being money mules.
The FLW 2026 was officially launched by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra on February 9, followed by an inaugural event at the Imperial Hall in Imphal, addressed by key RBI and regional government officials. The event included the unveiling of FLW posters, a panel discussion on KYC, CKYC, and account hygiene, and a presentation reinforcing the FLW theme’s core messages.
Throughout FLW 2026, RBI Imphal will host several outreach and awareness activities across the state. This includes a Cyclothon on February 10 aimed at promoting safe banking practices and financial discipline, as well as a Shumang Leela performance in Moirang Block, Bishnupur District, to convey the FLW message in an engaging manner. The RBI, along with collaborating banks and stakeholders, plans to sustain these financial literacy initiatives throughout the year, reinforcing KYC as the essential first step towards safe banking.
