Imphal International Airport witnessed the deportation of seven Myanmar nationals today, marking the beginning of a critical operation. As per directives from the state government’s Home Department, a total of 77 individuals are slated for deportation between March 8 and March 11.These Myanmar nationals will be ferried to the border town of Moreh from Imphal International Airport via helicopters, ensuring a strategic handover at the international boundary. The comprehensive plan outlined by the Home Department underscores the urgency and efficiency of the deportation process.
Underlining the gravity of the situation, the immigration officer in Moreh has been tasked with overseeing the seamless transfer to their Myanmar counterparts. Any attempts to evade deportation en-route will be met with swift legal action, as per IPC Section 224. Among the individuals facing deportation, 55 are women, accompanied by five children and a group of adult men, highlighting the diverse demographics affected by the ongoing crisis.
The backdrop of this deportation initiative is the persistent challenge of Myanmar nationals infiltrating into Manipur, spurred by the political turmoil in their homeland. In response, the Indian government has taken measures to suspend the Free Movement Regime (FMR), signaling a firm stance against illegal immigration.
