Continuing its efforts to promote awareness on women’s rights and related issues, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in association with Dimdailong Women Society organised a one-day awareness programme on “Legal Rights of Women” today at Dimdailong community hall, New Checkon.
Speaking at the programme, W. Phajatombi Devi, MCS, Member Secretary, MSCW & Additional Director (IPR), Manipur, said the initiative aimed to educate women on their legal rights and entitlements. She stressed the importance of organising such programmes to help women become informed and confident about their rights, which is essential for building an equitable and empowered society.
Taking part in the event, G. Thiampuina, alias Ruby, former Secretary, Dimdailong Women Society, observed that women from minority communities often hesitate to report crimes and injustice due to fear, shame and stigma. She stated that MSCW has consistently worked to address women’s grievances, including cases of domestic violence and other forms of injustice and encouraged women to approach the Commission for support and guidance.
While, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW, in her address, urged women to stay aware of their legal rights, while acknowledging their sacrificial spirit and resilience. She reaffirmed MSCW’s commitment to advancing the welfare and empowerment of women across the state. She further called upon the people to work together to support women’s rights for a progressive, empowered and harmonious society.
During the programme’s technical session, Kh. Lucy Jacky, Deputy Chief, Legal Aid Defence Counsel gave valuable insights on “Rights of Women”, while T. Chuongsin Koireng, Ex-member, MSCW stressed on “Know Your Rights”. The event was attended by SK Sophia Moyon, Member, MSCW; Romy, President, Dimdailong Women Society; Gaisinglung Kamei, Reverend Pastor, Dimdailong Baptist Church and many women from the area and nearby localities.
