Amidst escalating violence in Ukhrul district, Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has called for legal action against those responsible for the armed attacks and unrest in the region. At a public meeting in Keishamthong, Akoijam emphasized the importance of dialogue while warning against the normalization of armed displays. He denounced the recent violence, which included gunfire and arson incidents in Litan village, and characterized the situation as “very alarming.” He noted that these disturbances might have ulterior motives and stressed that political demands should not lean on communal lines, asserting that such an approach could threaten the stability of Manipur and India. Akoijam asserted that actions against armed violence must be strictly enforced under the law and highlighted that the crisis requires intervention beyond community resolutions. He indicated that should the state government fail to manage the situation, it might necessitate federal intervention, although he warned that this could undermine the state’s constitutional authority.
