In a significant political move, K. Ranjit Singh, a senior Congress leader and MLA from Sugnu AC, has submitted his resignation from the role of Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Ranjit, who has a history of six terms as a legislator, formally presented his resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing his gratitude for the responsibilities he bore during his tenure. In his letter, he noted that serving the party and upholding its principles was an honor, and he requested that his resignation be accepted.
This development comes in the aftermath of the Congress party’s internal changes, which include the appointment of former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh as the new chief of the Manipur unit, taking over from K. Meghachandra. Under the recent reshuffle, Keishampat Meghachandra has been named as the new CLP Leader, with K. Ranjit Singh continuing as his deputy until his resignation. Additionally, Victor Keishing and Manga Vaiphei have been appointed as working presidents of the organization.
The restructuring also involved appointing other key positions within the party, with Md. Fajur Rahim serving as the treasurer, Th. Lokeshwar Singh as the chairperson of the campaign committee, and Moirangthem Okendro as the chairperson of the Election Committee of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee. It’s noteworthy that K. Ranjit Singh began his political journey when he was first elected to the 7th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2000 on a BJP ticket, during which he served as Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, as well as General Administration. This background underscores his longstanding involvement in Manipur’s political landscape.
