A memorial lecture honoring former Chief Minister Md. Alimuddin took place on Thursday, organized by the Alimuddin Memorial Foundation at Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi Maning. Abdul Hashim, Chief Adviser of the foundation, presided over the event, with notable attendees including former UNLF Chairman RK Meghen, along with other esteemed figures like Alhaj Md.Alauddin, Alhaj Moulana Muheiyuddin Manjiri, and R.K.Nimai, a retired IAS officer and public intellectual.

Chief Guest Okram Joy, a veteran politician and former Minister, emphasized Md. Alimuddin’s integrity and merit, stating that he remains the most deserving candidate for the Chief Minister position even today. Reflecting on Alimuddin’s leadership, which began in 1972 when Manipur attained statehood, Joy characterized him as not just a political leader but a pivotal figure in shaping modern Manipur. He noted that unlike today’s political culture—which is characterized by violence and narrow personal interests—Alimuddin maintained a focus on democratic values, patience, and discipline. Joy asserted that the weakened rule of law seen today stands in stark contrast to the respect it garnered during Alimuddin’s tenure.

In his remarks, Joy underscored the urgent need for leadership reflecting Alimuddin’s courage, integrity, and commitment in addressing the current crises facing Manipur. He called for a renewal of ideas and collective vision to rebuild the state.

RK Meghen recounted the history of the Pan Manipur Youth League and its observance of Patriots’ Day on August 13, recalling how Alimuddin attended the event, which was pivotal in recognizing the martyrs of the Anglo Manipuri War of 1891. Meghen acknowledged Alimuddin’s contributions to state welfare while stressing the importance of collaborative leadership from various communities, including figures like Yangmaso Shaiza from the Naga community.

The program also featured an inauguration of a record exhibition showcasing Md. Alimuddin’s life and works. Additionally, scholarly papers were presented by Assistant Professor Naorem Sanatomba from Manipur University and Associate Professor Dr. Syed Ahmed of Dhanamanjuri University, focusing on different facets of Alimuddin’s life and political ideology, as well as his contributions to Manipur.
