The Supreme Court has ordered that the full 48-minute audio alleged to involve former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the 2023 ethnic violence be sent to the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar for forensic examination. The court directed that verified voice samples of Singh also be included in the analysis. Justices Sanjay Kumar and K Vinod Chandran mandated a prompt examination by the NFSU, requiring findings to be submitted in a sealed report. Previously, in November 2025, the NFSU indicated that audio clips sent to them appeared tampered and were unsuited for voice comparison, leading to uncertainty about the identities of the speakers. The petitioner, Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust, challenged this by alleging that the Manipur Police had only provided edited clips, not the full recording. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner, stated that the matter had been listed multiple times in court, asserting that the complete audio and transcript had been submitted. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati claimed that the full recording was only provided after a recent hearing. Ultimately, following the arguments, the court mandated the entire audio be sent to NFSU for thorough forensic analysis.
