Manipur security forces have intensified their crackdown on underground activities and criminal networks, with arrests targeting insurgents, arms smugglers, and vehicle lifters. Sagolsem Hemanta Singh, an active cadre of banned KYKL outfit, was arrested on August 5. Naobi Leishangthem, also known as Youhenba, was apprehended by security personnel from a rented house in Lamphel Yaipha Leikai. He was accused of extortion, mediation, and illegal settlements of criminal cases, including crimes against women, through threats and intimidation. In a separate operation carried out on August 4, two suspected gun traffickers were apprehended from different districts of Imphal East.

Ningthoujam Konungjao Meetei, of Keibi Khulen Makha Leikai, was taken from his home Ningombam Abung Meitei of Huidrom Awang Leikai was apprehended from Pourabi Hidumbi. During the operation, the security forces confiscated two live rounds of ammunition, a Vespa scooter, two cell phones, an Aadhaar card, and a 9mm pistol with a magazine. In the meantime, Manipur Police continued their campaign against offenses involving motor vehicles. The police issued 63 challans on August 5th, totaling Rs 99,500 in fines. Nine cars had their tinted films removed the day before, and one car was taken into custody for breaking traffic laws. Two alleged vehicle lifters were arrested in Thoubal district following a theft of a motorcycle. Investigations into the recent arrests are ongoing.
