Manipur MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure a transparent and fair delimitation process in the state, emphasizing the need to address key concerns before undertaking the exercise. Singh’s plea follows the Supreme Court’s directive to complete the delimitation process in several states, including Manipur, within three months. While welcoming the move, he stressed the importance of addressing demographic and electoral integrity issues to maintain fairness in representation. Singh stressed the need for an NRC to identify genuine citizens and eliminate illegal immigrants, ensuring a fair and just electoral process. He called for urgent action to detect and remove fraudulent voters, citing past revelations of 65,000 fake Aadhaar cards in the state.
Singh also supported Voter ID-Aadhaar linkage, but only after resolving the fake Aadhaar issue. Singh proposed special safeguards for the 40 Assembly seats in the valley region, similar to the reserved seats in hill districts, to protect indigenous identity and prevent demographic imbalances.Singh urged Amit Shah to instruct the Delimitation Commission and other authorities to address these concerns before starting the process. He argued that a fair and inclusive approach would help restore public trust and contribute to long-term peace and stability in Manipur.
His demands come amid growing anxieties over demographic shifts and electoral integrity, with political observers closely watching the central government’s response to his appeal.
