Senior Army officials informed Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the state’s security situation on July 17. The Eastern Command’s GOC-in-C, Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, served as the team’s leader. Maj. Gen. Ravroop Singh of IGAR South and Lt. Gen. Abhijit S. Pendharkar, GOC Spear Corps, were among the Army commanders’ team at Raj Bhavan who briefed Bhalla on the overall security situation in the Northeast. A planning and preparation report for the 134th Durand Cup 2025, which will take place in Imphal from July 30 to August 12, was also provided to the governor by the GOC-in-C.
According to defense sources, the commanders attended review talks with local military officials after arriving at the Imphal airport in an Air Force plane. According to them, the inspection is a regular evaluation of the operational readiness and security in the area. Since May 2023, ethnic conflict between the Meiteis of the Imphal Valley and the Kukis of the nearby hills has killed over 260 people and left thousands homeless in Manipur.
