The central government has appointed senior IAS officer Puneet Kumar Goel as the new Chief Secretary of Manipur, succeeding Prashant Kumar Singh, who has been reassigned to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
Goel, a 1991-batch officer from the AGMUT cadre, will hold the post in Manipur until his retirement on August 31, 2026. His appointment was made through an inter-cadre deputation, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
To facilitate his transfer, the government shortened his ongoing central deputation and granted a relaxation in policy. Goel’s appointment is seen as a key administrative move amid continuing efforts to stabilise governance in Manipur.
