On February 4, 2026, President’s Rule in Manipur was lifted, enabling the formation of a new elected government following ethnic violence in the state. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification revoking the President’s Rule just before the swearing-in of the new chief minister, Y Khemchand Singh, who is the leader of the NDA legislature party in Manipur. His oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 6 PM at Lok Bhavan, attended by officials. The BJP Manipur stated that Singh’s leadership is expected to lead the state towards peace, development, and good governance, signifying a new era of stability. This announcement followed Singh’s claim to form the government, supported by an NDA delegation that included MLAs from the Kuki-Zo majority districts of Churachandpur and Pherzawl, who met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to formally request government formation.
