Security forces in Manipur launched a series of coordinated operations over the past 24 hours, arresting several individuals linked to arms trafficking, insurgent groups, extortion, and drug smuggling, as part of a continued effort to stabilise the state amid lingering tensions.
In a significant arms bust in Imphal East district, three individuals — Naorem Naocha Meitei (38), Leishangthem Inaoton Singh (23), and Ayekpam Boiboy Meitei (26) — were arrested from Puhkhao Ahallup Makha Leikai. Among them, one is an active cadre of the UNLF (Pambei). Security personnel seized an INSAS rifle with a magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and three mobile phones. The seized weapons are estimated to be worth around ₹3.5 lakh and were allegedly meant for illegal trade.
Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, police arrested Khundongbam Prithibiraj Meitei (23) of the KCP (PWG) faction on charges of extorting money from local businesses. A hand grenade, a mobile phone, and a two-wheeler were recovered from his possession. Additional arrests include members of KCP (MFL) and PREPAK outfits, reportedly involved in extortion and threats across multiple districts. In Churachandpur, Mungsanglian alias David (33) was arrested with over 1.2 kg of suspected brown sugar packed in 112 soap cases. Separately, Thoubal police caught a woman identified as Fatima (44) with 51 bottles of banned codeine-based cough syrup labeled TUSSREX-TR. Police also recovered six stolen vehicles during a special drive. As part of intensified security measures, 110 checkpoints have been set up in sensitive zones to ensure the safe movement of essential supplies.
