The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, comprising the Congress party, convened at Congress Bhavan on June 5 to celebrate the electoral triumph of their newly elected Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha elections. The gathering served as a poignant reminder of the enduring principles of democracy, emphasizing the rejection of undue influence and the triumph of democratic ideals. Addressing the gathering, Congress Legislature Party leader Okram Ibobi hailed the recent electoral mandate as a resounding affirmation of democracy’s resilience. “This victory is a clear demonstration that democracy prevails over the influence of wealth and power,” declared Ibobi, while also censuring the BJP government for what he characterized as attempts to erode democratic principles in favor of a more authoritarian approach.

Congratulating Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, victor of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, and Alfred Kanngam S Arthur, winner of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Ibobi underscored the significance of their victories for the state of Manipur. He called upon the newly elected MPs to honor the trust bestowed upon them by the electorate with unwavering dedication and commitment. Ibobi stressed the pivotal role of MPs from smaller states like Manipur in shaping the national discourse, asserting, “The contribution of every MP is invaluable in our democracy, and diligent parliamentary engagement can effect transformative change.” Additionally, he criticized the Manipur government for its alleged failure to conduct Panchayati Raj and Municipal elections in a timely manner, accusing the BJP of undermining constitutional principles.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President Keisham Meghachandra echoed Ibobi’s sentiments, highlighting the significance of securing MP seats from the opposition. “The resounding victories of both candidates underscore the unwavering trust of the people,” remarked Meghachandra, pledging the Congress party’s steadfast commitment to advancing peace and prosperity in the state.
