Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh declared on Thursday that addressing the challenges faced by individuals displaced due to ethnic violence is his government’s foremost priority. In a media briefing, he announced plans to draft a comprehensive roadmap that will facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their residences in both hill and valley districts. He emphasized, “Our first priority will be to look after the problems of IDPs in both the hills and the valley. The biggest issue is that they are not able to return to their homes. The government will formulate a roadmap very soon.” Singh, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister on February 4, 2023, is faced with the daunting task of managing the aftermath of extensive ethnic unrest which has resulted in thousands of individuals seeking refuge in relief camps throughout various districts of Manipur.
