Narendra Modi on Monday met a three-member delegation from the Manipur government led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Prime Minister’s Office in the national capital.

The delegation included Manipur’s two Deputy Chief Ministers — Nemcha Kipgen of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front. Nemcha Kipgen, who represents Kangpokpi district, holds the distinction of being the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur.

This was the first meeting between the Prime Minister and Yumnam Khemchand Singh after the latter assumed office as Chief Minister on February 4.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the initiatives undertaken by the newly formed state government to restore peace and harmony in Manipur. He also emphasized the need for focused efforts toward women empowerment across both the hill and valley regions of the state.

The Manipur Chief Minister and his two deputies extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur in the near future.
