West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the cast and crew of the Manipuri film ‘Boong’ for its historic win at the BAFTA Awards, where it received the Best Children’s & Family Film award. Directed by debutant Lakshmipriya Devi, ‘Boong’ is the first Indian film to achieve this accolade in a category with strong international competition, highlighting a significant success for Indian cinema globally. In her message, Banerjee expressed her happiness and pride, stating that the film’s achievement was made against all odds and congratulated the team for bringing pride to the nation. Noteworthy figures in the film industry, including Karan Johar and Shekhar Kapur, also extended their congratulations, viewing this win as a pivotal moment for regional cinema in Northeast India. ‘Boong’ was produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment and was previously showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival.
