Imphal, Dec 14, 2023: Dead bodies which are victims of the Manipur Violence that broke out on 3rd May, that have been lying in the hospital morgues were handed over to their Kins today. Quoting Official source News agency PTI said that all the 64 lifeless bodies that are lying in the hospital morgues were handed over to their kins on Thursday.

Among this, these are the bodies of 60 Kuki victims who lost their lives during the violence that happened in the border state in month of May. These had been kept at hospital morgues in Imphal.

The four other bodies of Meitei victims who had been kept in Churachandpur Hospitals. The dead bodies of Kuki-Zo community kept at the mortuaries of the hospital at Imphal were airlifted in the early morning hours under tight security.

Two choppers were deployed into services for the transportation of the bodies.

As per report, Manipur tribal body Joint Philanthropic Organisation (JPO) has confirmed that the bodies of Kuki-Zo members lying in the Imphal morgue have been airlifted today.

As per sources, the bodies of Kuki-Zo members reached Motbung LS ground Kangpokpi District which has been lying at the morgue since violence broke down i.e. from May 2023.

Further, the tribal body to honour the dead has urged all shops and vendors to be shut down including vehicles, and business establishments from 2:00 pm today.

Meanwhile, 41 bodies will be send to Churachanpur and 19 bodies to Kangpokpi district.

In Last month, the Supreme Court was directed the Manipur Government to make arrangements for the dignified burial of the unidentified victims of the said violence. The bench, leaded by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had ordered the Government to ensure “Decent and Dignified Burial” of the unidentified and unclaimed bodies.
