The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC), based in Lamka, has issued a strong condemnation of Deputy Chief Minister Losi Dikho’s recent visits to Kuki-inhabited areas, perceiving these actions as attempts to undermine the aspirations of the Kuki community. The KHRC’s press release accused the Deputy Chief Minister of trying to incite divisions among Kuki sub-tribes, describing his visits as a “blatant attempt to divide and rule.” They have urged him to abstain from entering Kuki areas until their demand for a separate administration for the Kuki people is met.
Additionally, the council asserted that the Deputy Chief Minister’s role should be focused on representing the Naga community and not involved in Kuki issues, deeming his actions as provocative and unacceptable, particularly as they threaten the unity and struggle of the Kuki community. The KHRC underscored the right of every community to defend its territorial integrity and boundaries, reinforcing that the Kuki people will not compromise on this principle.
The council has appealed to the Government of India to acknowledge the implications of the Deputy Chief Minister’s actions and to intervene to avert further escalation of tensions in the region. The press release was co-signed by KHRC General Secretary Tomgminthang Kuki and Vice President Gavriel K. Simte, reaffirming the council’s commitment to continue their movement until their objectives are achieved.
