Manipur Police on Saturday rescued a 22-year-old student named Laishram Chinglen Singh and arrested eight suspected cadres of the militant outfit for kidnapping him for ransom from the hostel of DM College of Science in Imphal on Friday afternoon.
Initial investigations revealed that the kidnappers were linked to the Kanglipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG), a police official said.
The rescue operation was started on Saturday at 1 am based on the complaint. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs. 15 lakh and threatened to kill the student if the demand was not met. A large number of arms and ammunition including an AK-47 rifle and a samurai sword were seized from the suspects.
