Peace Cable Television (PCTV), particularly its ISTV branch in Heirok, commemorated its 16th anniversary on Mayai Leikai playground. The event, organized by the PCTV Network Management Committee, was attended by notable figures including Asem Bhakta, President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), who served as Chief Guest, and Shri Harimohon Sharma, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, who presided over the gathering. Additionally, Helendro Maibam, Editor of ISTV Network, participated along with various local dignitaries.
During his speech, Asem Bhakta underscored PCTV’s significant contribution in delivering electronic news and information within the Heirok community, emphasizing the critical role of electronic media in contemporary communication. Helendro Maibam addressed the challenges current technology poses for electronic media, remarking that the rapid advancement in technologies brings both new opportunities and obstacles. He urged for self-reflection among media professionals given the prevalence of unverified news proliferated by the internet, mobile devices, and social media, which intensifies the challenges for responsible journalism. Maibam cautioned the public against uncritically accepting unverified news from social platforms, highlighting the necessity for discernment in media consumption.
PCTV President Khundongbam Pritamchand (Shanti) reflected on the organization’s history, noting its establishment in 2011 and its ongoing commitment to providing the public with news and information on societal events and welfare issues. He acknowledged the support received from the community throughout the years and called for continued public encouragement of the cable network’s efforts in the future.
