In a united front, five student bodies have come together to condemn the reported abduction of Kongbrailatpam Haridev Sharma, the president of the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU). They have issued a firm demand for the unconditional release of the abducted student leader. Speaking at a press conference held at the office of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Mayengbam Somorjit, the president of DESAM, highlighted the troubling incident. Haridev Sharma was allegedly abducted by unknown assailants while returning from Manipur University yesterday.
Somorjit disclosed that the abduction occurred following a joint meeting of the five student bodies—DESAM, AMSU, Kangleipak Students Association, Students Union of Kangleipak, and Apunba Ireipaki Maheiroi Singpanglup—with the Manipur University Students Union. The meeting aimed to address the impact of the current crisis on the student community.
Expressing grave concern over the incident, Somorjit emphasized the unfortunate nature of targeting a student actively involved in advocating for the welfare of the student community. He urged for Haridev’s immediate release without any conditions attached and called for an end to the intimidation and threats faced by students.
