A progressive fish farmer from Manipur, Salam Rohendro Singh, has achieved significant recognition for his contributions to fisheries and aquaculture, earning multiple awards at both state and national levels. Actively promoting scientific fish farming and sustainable aquaculture, he has bolstered his expertise through various training programs from the Manipur Fisheries Department and National Research Institutions.
In June 2014, he completed a Short-Term Course on Fish Farming Technology, acquiring skills in pond preparation, fish seed management, and modern aquaculture techniques. He later attended a Skill Development Training on Wetland Management in June 2017, focusing on sustainable practices for improving fish production, facilitated by experts from ICAR and Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Currently managing a 0.5-hectare fish farming unit implementing modern methods, his farm serves as a model for other aspiring fish farmers. Rohendro’s dedication was recognized when he won First Prize at the Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition in November 2021 and the Best Progressive Fish Farmer Award on National Fish Farmers’ Day in July 2022. He was also awarded the Haricharan Das Memorial Best Progressive Farmer Award in December 2022 and the Innovative Farmer Award at the Krishi Kumbha Mela in January 2023.
His accolades culminated in the IARI Innovative Farmer Award 2026, presented in February 2026. Beyond his farming successes, Rohendro has been invited as a guest speaker at various sessions to share insights with fellow farmers and stakeholders, reinforcing his role as a model in sustainable fisheries development in Manipur.
